Freedom of the Human Spirit in Queens

Freedom of the Human Spirit by Marshall Fredericks, cast ca. 1964, rests on the grounds of the Queens Museum of Art. 

Corona Park, otherwise called Flushing Meadows Park, is the site of two World's Fairs that have been held in New York, the first in 1939-40 and the other in 1964-65.

Unisphere

Built when the Space Age was young, the Unisphere celebrates the 1964-65 New York World's Fair in Flushing Meadow, Queens. What remains of the New York State Pavilion rises in the background. 

The Unisphere sits in front of the Queens Museum of Art, well worth the ride almost to the end of the MTA number 7 line and one mile stroll through the old fairgrounds. The subway ride is itself an ethnic trip around the world. 

There are other remnants of the Fair to be found here and there: the layout of avenues, drinking fountains, benches, fountains, mosaics, street names in stone.
