Collection of Fire Hose Drying Towers

Syracuse has a nice collection of old fire stations with their fire hose drying towers still intact. None of these stations are still in use, and most are in private hands now.

Firemen's Insurance Company Fire Mark With Hand Pumper


In the 18th and 19th centuries, fire marks like this one were posted above the first floor on the exteriors of homes and commercial buildings to alert the responding fire department of which insurance company to apply to be paid for fighting a fire as advertisements and also as evidence of an insurance policy should the paper policy burn in a fire.

Pop-up Art on the Parkway

She stood out early one morning in the late fall landscape, near the bridge over the salt pond on the Parkway. By the next day, she was gone. I miss her.
