Iceland: Akureyri and Environs - Building Style

Commercial buildings, homes, a school, an academic building, farms...usually show Scandinavian influence, do not all conform and may display pageantry and decorative features or a more modern functional block form, low and flat groupings, usually light in color...all shelter from very long, cold and dark winters, and all invite available light.

Iceland: Siglo to Akureyri

Driving south from Siglo, we pass an uninhabited fjord, a wild and windy place.

Further along the mountains are further back from the sea and we can see the massiveness of them, accentuated by the overnight snow.

We visit the Kaldi Brewery and enjoy a tour and samples of the microbrewery's wonderful products. Before noon.

Akureyri's 150th Anniversary celebration is just finished. We are fortunate to find flags still up along the main street up and away from the harbor.
