Checking for Invasive Aquatics Between Lakes During the Adirondack Canoe Classic

The first two photos are taken between Eighth Lake and Brown Tract Outlet.
The third photo is at the lower end of the Marion Carry between Raquette Lake and Utowana Lake.
The Adirondack Canoe Classic is a 3-day, 90-mile paddling and rowing race between Old Forge and Saranac Lake during the weekend after Labor Day.
This year that Friday was a cloudless, windless day, perfect for the paddlers.
I volunteer with the Adirondack Park Invasive Species Program. We found and removed invasives clinging to boats inside and out, especially between Raquette and Utowana Lakes, and educated paddlers. It was a great day to be out!
