Museum of Fine Arts, Boston: Abraham Lincoln by Daniel Chester French

This Abraham Lincoln is a relatively recent cast in bronze from an original mold made by Daniel Chester French who, of course, created the monumental Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. French lived and worked in western Massachusetts.

These bronze sculptures and many more, laid into sidewalks and streets in Haymarket Square, mirror the condition of the square after the frequent produce markets in this large open space beside the North End. 

Asaroton refers to an ancient Roman, and earlier, floor mosaic technique and means "unswept floor." This link brings one to a wonderful collection of ancient examples.

Veterans Day in Boston: Veterans for Peace

Veterans for Peace march in Boston in a separate parade immediately following veterans who are offended by the idea of an alternative view toward war. They are officially not permitted to march in the larger Veterans Day parade. 

On the progressive side, the LGBTQ group OutVet were allowed to march in the main parade for the first time this year.
