The Barbed Wire Tour: Kansas

During early-mid June, I flew into Kansas City and flew back out from there exactly one week later.

During that week I made a thousand mile tour of some of the Flint Hills prairies of eastern Kansas, some of rural Oklahoma, family in Arkansas, and more prairies in far western Missouri.

I am passionate about prairies. I want to share some of the beauty with you.

Here is a very good introduction to prairies in North America.

Oddly enough, barbed wire is a relatively new phenomenon. For hundreds of thousands of years bison roamed the entire central North America on prairies, varied according to altitude and latitude. Today's prairies are entirely contained within barbed wire that small stable herds of bison populate, along with vast numbers of birds and plants. It is a wonderland.

If you go, be prepared for heat and ticks.
