Duck Eggs and Golf Ball in Upper Onondaga Park

This is the second year Mrs. Duck has nested in the middle of tall ornamental grasses in Upper Onondaga Park.

The Sweet Season

By now, the maple syrup season is likely over. It lasts "until the full moon in April" or, more likely, until the snow in the woods is gone and the ground begins to warm up, bringing on the bud. It hasn't felt like a sugary spring for some time now, and the snow has been gone awhile, too.

Bronze Gate Latch Stop

This gate latch stop is part of the metal fence and gate around the Cayuga Museum of History and Art near the center of Auburn. The aged bronze color and scratches caught my eye.

Weighlock Building

Canal boats traveling along the Erie Canal passed through the Weighlock Building where the weight of the cargo could be calculated. Syracuse Then and Now explains a bit more about the history of the building, including how we almost lost it and City Hall to the Interstate coming through town. Who dreams up these desecrations?

View North Toward Syracuse

[I posted the following comments with this photo on Facebook recently.]
This is the kind of scene that makes me turn the car around.

I was driving downhill, leaving SU's South Campus (where I have recently added a better hearing aid to my inventory).

The photo shows, from left, Carrier Dome; just behind it the imposing but dwarfed Crouse College; Day Hall on Mount Olympus at the top of SU (at the same latitude as Carrier Dome); and in the nearer distance at the right, Morningside Reservoir's (3) tanks. From this perspective it is easy to see how huge the Dome is.
