Celtic Cross at the Foot of Tompkins Street in Tipperary Hill

Peter Coleman, long-time Tipperary Hill businessman and mayor, brought this Celtic cross from Ireland.

  1. Impressive! It's something that occasionally turns up here and there as well, since there's a strong Irish presence in the Ottawa Valley.

  2. Interesting. Here, building the Erie Canal drew Irish immigrants upstate for the many jobs. Tipperary Hill, a neighborhood in Syracuse situated on a hillside in the western part of the city, overlooks the route of the original canal.
