Sakahàn: International Indigenous Art

Earth and Sky is a 50-metre work of banner art created by Shuvinai Ashoona of Cape Dorset and John Noestheden of Amsterdam at the National Gallery of Canada. It hangs in the long ramp leading to the galleries. The banner’s images reflect Arctic landscapes and cosmic visions. It is part of a huge city-wide show, Sakahàn: International Indigenous Art.

Sakahàn—means “to light [a fire]” in the language of the Algonquin peoples.
