Not too far northeast of Baltimore is a wonderful garden containing more than a dozen rooms and other features. The single feature for which it is most famous is its topiary of highly refined shapes and creatures. This dog is part of a hunt scene and has just been clipped. The gardener can clip one and a half dogs in a day. It is very fine and thoughtful work. Below is the fox. The gardener clipped her first so that she would have a chance at escape. Enlarge her to see the precision with which she is formed, year after year.
We stopped here on our way north last week, on our way home from Baltimore.
