June 27The first time I visited Florence Shelley, in November 2010, the culvert was full of brush and logs, and water was seeping over the causeway. Deposits of sticks indicated It had seen even higher levels. The highest water had eroded rocks and fill on the top and downstream side of the causeway. The stream and crossing were asking for help.If anyone connected to Florence Shelly reads this, I would like to join you in ongoing care of the NC site. It is a treasure.
The water was very cold on that sunny November day. I cleared about a third of the culvert of debris. I was mesmerized watching the foam break up.
