Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery at Huntsville, Ontario

Petawawa Gorges, original by Tom Thompson

At the center of the centennial celebration of Tom Thompson's (1887-1917) life and death at Canoe Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park is Huntsville, Ontario.

Here are three of the many large replicas of Tom Thompson and Group of Seven paintings seen in Huntsville. Many others are at Oxtongue Lake; inside the Park; and at many other towns in the Muskoka region.

Tom Thompson at Huntsville, Ontario

One of the very best of Canadian artists, Tom Thompson, 1887-1917, rose just ahead of the Group of Seven. He led many Canadian artists right into Impressionism using scenes of the wilderness north of Ottawa and Toronto Ontario as his subject matter.

Here he is painting The West Wind. The statue is in front of the Civic Centre in Huntsville, Ontario.
