Amur Tiger at Rosamond Gifford Zoo

Our zoo specializes in northern climate animals, so the very best time of year to go
is during the winter, the colder the better.

This Guy Wants to Eat Our Songbirds

He or she comes by every day and sits on approximately the same branch down back. And every day a host of crows come along and sit near it, quietly dogging it, and after awhile the Red-tailed leaves.

Holiday Lights as Flower Baskets at Our House

Everyone around here leaves holiday lights up
until there is evidence of the long slide into Spring.

I Went Bowling

Friend asked me to sub for her in her noon league; haven't bowled in 15 years; was a passable bowler; forgot everything; not as easy to relearn as riding a bicycle; took more concentration than I remembered; by the third game, made a couple strikes and three or four spares; not so bad; someone asked me to sub next week. Yes!

PS I took this with a 10-second timer.

Water Tower in Franklin Square

Handheld; after dark; some ambient light from street lights, the moon and reflected light from snow.

We've Lost Our Dear Brenner

We lost our dear Brenner on Friday after a long illness. We miss him terribly.

He loved the water. He loved camp, swimming, and sticks!

He knew exactly how to relax!

Jack and Brenner

This was taken on the day, 5 years ago, when we chose him at Glen Highland Farm.
He had been rescued and spent a year on the farm healing body and soul.
He never lost his wildness, which made living with him a fantastic adventure.

NYC: Earl's Beer & Cheese

A little hard to find at just a few feet north of 97th St. on Park Avenue, Earl's is worth finding.

Combine it with a trip to Museum of the City of New York, El Museo del Barrio, upper Central Park and the Conservatory Garden, the Jewish Museum, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, or the Guggenheim, all on or just off Fifth Ave, and you'll have a fine outing. The subway runs up Lexington.

Earl's is an interesting little neighborhood spot, with delicious sandwiches and soup, that earned a favorable review in The New Yorker when it first opened. Besides, they are friends of ours!

NYC: Estamos Todos Los Que Caremos

From the website ...  www.streetartnews.net:
"Our friend Faith47 is currently in North America where she just finished working on a brand new mural in Harlem for Monument Art.
"This new piece was painted as part of the monument art NYC project which is focusing on the issue of immigration. ‘estamos todos los que cabemos’ speaks of the migrationary patterns of birds, observing that nature ignores human borders on a map.
"we forget that the dividing lines specifying countries, were merley drawn by politically hungry men.
in reality the earth is open. there are no countries, no borders, it belongs to no one. we are transient visitors and should travel as we please. –Faith47

"...if you are in the area, you’ll be able to find it in Harlem, on the corner of 103 st and madison ave."
The location is on a vast wall above the play ground of a school building that backs up to Museum of the City of New York on Fifth Ave. at 103 St.
